Lila Karbowska, born 1963 in Koło / Poland
Since 1983: lives and works in Berlin.
Studied art history at the Freie Universität Berlin —diploma 2001
Creative work in installation, video, photography, object and drawing.
Lila Karbowska works with the physical quality and the cultural meaning and function of material. It is the ephemeral character, flavour or sound-of the material and the material aesthetics that interest her the most. The concepts underlying her work are deciphered mostly in the titles of her pieces. Currently her focus is on site-specific installations, presented with small performances. In addition to this, enormous, room-filling installations, as well as long-term “diary-type” works, are also part of her artistic expression.
1994-2000 artistic collaboration with sound artist Robin Minard (supporting the conception and realization of installations, the catalog design and documentation). Since 2000 she is showing her work in international single and group exhibitions.
